American Airlines MD–80 Fleet Orders Global ePoint/AirWorks Laptop Computer Power Systems

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — July 1, 2004 — Global ePoint, Inc. (Nasdaq:GEPT) today announced its AirWorks division received initial orders from American Airlines to install Laptop Computer Power systems in 103 additional MD–80 aircraft. The initial orders are for $361,000 with a follow–on orders anticipated.

The state–of–the–art AirWorks system allows passengers to plug laptops directly into their seat, eliminating the need for self–contained battery power and/or carrying extra batteries for long flights.

American Airlines is the largest carrier in the world, currently operating over 890 commercial aircraft. AirWorks previously provided Laptop Computer Power Systems to American Airlines in 1998 for their entire fleet.

These reorders for 103 additional MD–80 aircraft are part of the American Airlines "Empower Program." It will standardize American’s entire fleet with AirWorks Laptop Computer Power Systems and make lap top power a standard feature aboard all American Airlines aircraft in both first and business class seats – as well as some select coach seating.

AirWorks President and Chief Executive Officer, Ricky Frick, commented, "When completed, this project will position American Airlines as a leader in utilizing technology to enhance customer satisfaction. American has demonstrated a clear commitment to providing the very best in–flight amenities and onboard technologies for business class travelers, and AirWorks is proud to be a part of this effort. The installation consists of interior and sidewall cable and wiring assemblies, all designed, certified and manufactured by AirWorks. This contract demonstrates the capabilities AirWorks can provide to a major airline, creating a winning situation for the airline and their customers."

Airworks has provided Laptop Computer Power System installations for more than 1,500 aircraft flying worldwide since 1998 and – in addition to American Airlines – has supplied systems to Sun Country Airlines, Martin Air, CityBird, Finnair and others.

"The convenience of AirWorks’ Laptop Computer Power system has become exceedingly popular with travelers," Mr. Frick continued. "With air travel up a reported 16–percent over this time last year – and steadily increasing – we anticipate strong growth in sales for all passenger–convenience systems as airlines actively compete to win more business and first class passengers. AirWorks is in an excellent position to benefit from this growth as we hold Federal Aviation Administration certified supplemental type certificates (STC) for many passenger convenience items."

Global ePoint Chief Executive Officer, Toresa Lou, commented, "AirWorks, together with Global ePoint’s original design manufacturing and R&D capabilities, will continue to develop and market products focusing on Airline passenger security, safety and convenience. It is critical for airlines to enhance the customer experience to build loyalty among travelers, and Global ePoint has the unique capability to facilitate this effort with products like the Laptop Power System."

The AirWorks division’s primary communications and security products include cockpit door surveillance systems (CDSS), a digital electronic "flight bag" of all flight and on-board manuals and records for pilots, and a Laptop Computer Power System for passengers and flight crews. AirWorks customers include airline OEMs including AT&T Aviation, BAE Systems, Inflight Phone, L3 Communications, and Rockwell Collins; all major U.S. airlines; and all major international carriers, including ATA, Air China, Bombardier, Finnair, Varig, KLM, Lufthansa, and Cathay Pacific.
